I recently bought a VPS plan and I’m trying to wrap my head around how to actually use VPS hosting effectively.
I know it's more powerful than shared hosting, but it also seems a bit technical — setting up the OS, managing files, securing the server, etc. I'm planning to host a few websites and maybe run a lightweight email server later on.
Right now I’m exploring platforms like this VPS hosting provider that offer root access and full control — but I’d love to hear from others who’ve done this before.
How do you start with server setup?
Which control panel do you prefer (cPanel, Webmin, CyberPanel)?
What mistakes should I avoid as a beginner?

Honestly, VPS can feel overwhelming at first but once you get the basics of SSH and control panels it gets easier. I’ve been experimenting on a test server just to break things and learn. Also saw some ads for lifetime hosting deals recently… has anyone here actually tried that instead of paying monthly?
